Elite Equine is formulated from 100% Rosa Canina powder. The powder is produced from the Rosa Canina plant which grows wild in the rich soils of Lesotho, and is harvested by hand.

It is inherently an anti-inflammatory, a powerful antioxidant and a rich source of vitamin C. Rosehip has been scientifically tested and has shown itself to improve general health, protect cartilage, reduce inflammation and promote general performance in horses.

Elite Equine is specifically formulated to support the general robustness and joint health of your horse. The product is 100% organic and certified with various regulatory bodies, including EU, EU Organic, USDA, BCS-Kiwa and Rainforest Alliance.

All material that is not pure enough to be used in our other products, and all by-products such as that produced during the cutting and sieving process, are combined to produce a highly nutritious and versatile animal feed. There is absolutely no wastage in our processing.
Rosehip are preferred for the following benefits:

The antioxidant properties contained within rosehips are useful for sustaining a healthy body. Studies have proven that anti-oxidants protect the body against particular illnesses like cancer, arthritis, and cardiovascular diseases. Excessive free radicals result from poor nutrition, pressure, and damaged tissues in both humans and horses. Infections will decrease a horse’s vitamin c levels, and this may also inhibit the development and repair of bone and cartilage tissue. The antioxidants present in rosehips can help to neutralize free radicals and keep your horse healthy.

Vitamin C Content
Rosehips are on of the richest plant sources of Vitamin C, and with one to two percent by dry weight, rosehips have a higher Vitamin C content than citrus fruit. Bioflavonoids enhance vitamin C’s ability to strengthen blood vessels, and this encourages healthy hoof growth in horses. They are also beneficial for preventing illness or to restore the immune system after illness.

Arthritic Advantages
Research by the Osteoarthritis Research Society International confirmed that a protein present in rose hips could help horses by preventing the start of osteoarthritis through boosting the immune system, hence shielding joint tissue from materials that harm them.

Other Nutrients
Rose hips contain vitamins E, D, and A, along with anti-oxidants that support the immune system. If your veterinarian determines that your horse needs supplementation like Vitamin C, for example, you likely will benefit more from various other sources with less sugar. These seeds also provide Omega – 6 fatty acids, however, your horse probably gets enough Omega – 6 from his grain and hay.

Who is the Rosehip Company?

Lesotho is 30,355 km2 (11,720 sq mi) in size with a population of approximately 2 067 000. The population distribution of Lesotho is 25% urban and 75% rural. It is the only independent state in the world that lies entirely above 1,000 metres (3,281 ft) in elevation. Its lowest point of 1,400 metres (4,593 ft) is thus the highest in the world. Over 80% of the country lies above 1,800 metres (5,906 ft). Lesotho is also the southernmost landlocked country in the world and is entirely surrounded by the country of South Africa. It lies between latitudes 28° and 31°S, and longitudes 27° and 30°E.

Because of its altitude, Lesotho remains cooler throughout the year than other regions at the same latitude. Most of the rain falls as summer thunderstorms. Maseru and surrounding lowlands often reach 30 °C (86 °F) in summer. Winters can be cold with the lowlands getting down to −7 °C (19 °F) and the highlands to −18 °C (−0 °F) at times. Snow is common in the highlands between May and September; the higher peaks can experience snowfalls year-round.

At The Rosehip Company we are very aware of the environmental responsibility of our company. Lesotho’s main objective is that every person living in Lesotho has the fundamental right to a clean and healthy environment. The rate of population growth and the productivity of available resources are actively managed by the Environmental Management Team. Quality of products in Lesotho are high, as fertilization and pesticides are kept to a minimum.

Rosa Eglanteria aka Rubignosa is an alien and invasive species introduced to Lesotho. There are various explanations for the way in which the plant got introduced but that it spread very rapidly is certain. There was also the reasoning that it should be planted in dongas and erosion gullies to prevent the huge soil erosion problem that Lesotho experience.

The plant’s roots did not bind the soil effectively but it did find a very good environment in which to spread aggressively. Currently very large areas of Lesotho are covered by the plant and even though we remove large quantities of seed from the environment through our harvesting the distribution of the plant does not seem to be diminished.

The Rosehip Company’s main vision and mission is to provide our rural community with a sustainable income, yet to ensure that is done in an environmentally responsible manner, to ensure contingency of product availability and ongoing support of the community.

Lesotho is ranking 160 out of 187 countries, on the Human Development Index of the UNDP. Through the company’s direct trade with the rural communities we are able to offer a significant impact on the poverty experienced by the communities and this will always be our main driving force.
