With the right care, you and your Uhip garment will be inseparable for many years. Here are a few easy steps to prolong the function, looks and maintain the benefits of your Uhip outfit.

First of all – If you get dirt on it (dog paws, horse snot/saliva, mucky hands) WIPE it off. The deeper the stain goes, the more damage it will do to the technical fabric chosen for these garments.

Wash your garment when you have worked up a sweat or it has become dirty, as sweat and dirt weakens the performance of the garment. They can reduce the fabric’s breathability and damage the water repellent surface. The dirt can even allow for moisture to leak though the fabric. Wash your garments inside out so that the detergent and the dirty water can be centrifuged out of the membrane and pad.

Make sure to button up everything and that the zippers are zipped and closed when washing. This will minimise the risk of the fabric getting caught on sharp edges during the wash.

Avoid using fabric softener. They have a negative impact on the garments performance and the environment. The fabric softener leaves a coating on the fibres of the garment, which affects the moisture transportation and breathability.

Most of Uhip’s garments have DWR treatments – durable water repellency. The

purpose of this is to make the outer fabric water resistant.

Hang dry, or you can introduce some heat to the garment after washing to reactivate the water resistant surface of the outer fabric i,e use a drying cabinet, dryer or iron.

N:B Make sure you monitor the heat so the garment does not melt.

When the DWR treatment wears off after afew seasons, the outer fabric of your shell layer will start to get wet even though the membrane will still repel water. When this happens, you can re-apply the DWR with a wash-in product or a spray. NikWax was recommended by a customer of mine!

We remind you to always read the care labels and instructions to make the love of your Uhip garment last as long as possible!

High quality zippers from YKK

Since Uhips garments have zippers as a central functionality, they choose zippers from the leading manufacturer on the market, YKK.  YKK has extensive experience in manufacturing zippers and conducts rigorous testing before a zipper is put into production. YKK is used by most leading and renowned outdoor manufacturers.

Functional two-way zippers

For those garments that require two-way zippers in their function, it is not only the quality of the zipper that affects the durability but also how they are used, i.e. how to put the zipper together and pull it up affects the life of the zipper. Information is a challenge, but we will be better at conveying YKK’s instructions.
